ICTI CARE Publishes Ethical Recruitment Guide For Toy Factories

23 June 2016

The ICTI CARE Foundation has released a free Recruitment Practices Briefing guide to help toy factories plan for increased workforces during the peak summertime manufacturing season. Available in Chinese and English, the guide provides factories with tips on ethical recruitment practices, and helps toy companies and retailers gain a better understanding of the challenges faced by suppliers during peak production periods.

According to ICTI CARE, factory worker numbers fluctuate by nearly 58% between high and low seasons due to the seasonal nature of the toy industry. The guide helps factories manage recruitment issues often experienced during workforce fluctuations, and also includes measures to ensure safe, non-discriminatory workplaces and fair wages, among other important practices.

The new literature also includes guidance on adhering to ICTI CARE’s Code of Business Practices, which provides ethical operating principles pertaining to labor, the workplace and compliance.

“The Recruitment Practices Briefing is a great resource aimed at toy brands, retailers and manufacturers,” said Mark Robertson, ICTI CARE’s director of communications & stakeholder relations. “Industry members are encouraged to share the document with their sourcing factories to encourage better recruitment practices along the global toy supply chain. This could also help to avoid key risks which can make headlines if not addressed during peak production season.”
